Developing Independence

Preparing For The Future

Raising a child with cerebral palsy can be a lot of work. Families want to maximize a child’s potential while protecting them from being hurt. It is important to build your child’s confidence and independence so they grow up knowing how much they can do on their own and have a great chance of becoming independent confident adults. Cerebral Palsy does not have to hold them back, although some things may need to be modified or done differently. If you are an adult with CP this section also outlines how you can advocate and build your own independence at home, at work and in relationships. Articles focused on developing independence across the lifespan are color coded pink.
