Tips For Having a Successful OB/GYN Appointment

This video series is a tool to help women with disabilities access gynecologic care.

Finding a new OB/G can be really, really hard. And I think that it's okay to test them out. And if one doesn't work, then you're not obligated to stick with one. Ask friends. That's the biggest thing that I've found is I get recommendations from my friends.

You know, the internet is a great tool. Just being aware of, like, what the resources are in your area. Finding other disability related organizations and the people that attend those programs or utilize those services. They're the best people to ask because they're using the services themselves.

After your visit, you should contact your healthcare provider if:

  • You are unclear about something

  • You have questions or concerns

  • You have symptoms after your appointment that are new or are not resolved

  • You have had a test or procedure and need to discuss the results

A good tip is to add a reminder to your calendar six months ahead of your next examination.
