What is PCORI?

PCORI stands for Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute. It is a nonprofit research funding organization, and not a government agency. It was authorized by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 for the purpose of helping patients, clinicians, purchasers and policy makers make more informed health decisions by “advancing the quality and relevance of evidence about how to prevent, diagnose, treat, monitor, and manage diseases, disorders and other health conditions.” They do this through funding comparative clinical effectiveness research and related projects.
